According to the traditional definition, a dojo is a space where an individual practices a process in the pursuit of perfection. Daily in our kitchen Dojo Gelato handcrafts, from scratch, fresh gelati and sorbetti with the best ingredients possible. Since opening our doors in 2009, our mission has been to create for you the most deliciously perfect Italian-style ice creams and coffees you will ever experience.
Our ice creams are made fresh--from scratch--daily at our Northside kitchen in Cincinnati. We do not use artificial flavorings, colorings, or powdered milk mixes. Our gelati and sorbetti take longer to create and are more labor intensive, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re confident you’ll experience and enjoy the difference. You can visit us at our Findlay Market or Northside locations, along with our roaming gelato truck and carts throughout the Tri-State area.
About Our Founder
When Michael and his wife Kimberly moved to Cincinnati from Austin, Texas, he discovered that Cincinnati was lacking an authentic Italian-style ice cream shop. Michael opened Dojo Gelato in the summer of 2009 at historic Findlay Market, in Over-the-Rhine, fulfilling a lifelong dream to create his own independent ice cream shop where focus was placed on freshness and quality, not quantity.
Michael studied traditional gelato techniques with Italian pastry masters in New York City, as well as attended Penn State's legendary Ice Cream Short Course at the Berkey Creamery. Dojo is known for its fresh gelati, creative flavors, and dedication to providing guests with unique ice cream and coffee experiences. We create authentic Italian-style ice creams and sorbetti in our Northside kitchen every day in small batches. We use fresh ingredients, including growth-hormone-free milk from Ohio and, whenever possible, produce from local farmers. We never use any artificial flavorings or extracts in the creation of our gelati.
